Dunkirk Arts Centre
supporting the creative arts
making the arts exciting and relevant to modern Britain

The Dunkirk Arts Centre enjoys supporting all the activities shown below.
We are happy to work with adults and children in all these areas,
and to provide individual tuition as required.

Eric runs a pottery in our stables block. We have a wheel, kiln and all the tools required. We are happy to teach adults, and we run "clay-play" sessions for children during school holidays. Plate painting for special occasions and green man images are a speciality.
We run ceilidh dances with Joy acting as MC and Eric leading Freds Folks band. We can provide dances for young and old, for 50 to 500 people, and for any special family occasion - weddings, anniversaries, fund-raising, student welcomes and parties. Pirate weddings and international students a speciality! Our music book is on-line as music scores.
We help Ken with "King Billy Sessions", a regular instrumental and folk singing session for adults at the King William IV pub in Nottingham. Anyone is welcome to come and listen or offer an item. We can come and sing and play at your event if you wish. The web site contains words and mp3 files of some of our songs, and the scores of some of the tunes.

Joy performs traditional British step clog dancing as part of the local "Greenwood Step Clog Dancers" team. The team perform at festivals and other events throughout the country, and can be booked to appear at your wedding / anniversary / birthday party. Eric and Dave provide their music. Find a slide show of photos here.
Eric dances the morris with the renowned Nottingham-based Foresters Morris Men team, and plays for them when required. We dance out at many local events and festivals. We also perform traditional English point-and-hilt rapper sword dancing and locally based plough (mummers) plays.
We run monthly folk singing sessions for kids on a Sunday afternoon in Beeston. Adults and children join in traditional singing and play percussion instruments. We expect every child to bring an adult, and every adult to be accompanied by a child!

We own a pair of Victorian magic lanterns, and can give Magic lantern shows when required. Our extensive collection of slides includes historic photos of France, Egypt and Canada, and painted moralistic and educational slides, as well as animated slides with moving parts. We were seen on BBC4 a while ago.
Joy has studied extensively in India and performs Indian classical dance (Kathak style) and story telling. Lessons take place in our own dance studio (the roof space next to the crane), and she can run special days of Indian culture in schools. She works in conjunction with Chaturangan of Liverpool.
Eric looks after web sites for a number of organisations. These include
British Button Society, Chaturangan, Foresters Morris, Greenwood Step Clog, Grant Publisher, King Billy Sessions, Young Folk and Freds Folks.
