Current Position:
I am a Professor of Computer Science and Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Nottingham. My main research interest lies at the interface of Operational Research and Computer Science. In particular, I am exploring search methodologies and the role that they play in underpinning intelligent decision support systems across a wide variety of applications. This includes automated scheduling and timetabling, cutting and packing, personnel rostering, evolutionary computation and meta-heuristics, hyper-heuristics, operational research, artificial intelligence, combinatorial optimisation and bioinformatics. I lead the Automated Scheduling, Optimisation and Planning research group here at Nottingham.
