I am a "Science and Innovation" Lecturer in the School of Computer Science at the University of Nottingham, working in the Automated Scheduling, Optimisation and Planning Research Group (ASAP).

News
o Leena N. Ahmed, one of our MSc in IT students, produced an academic paper from her dissertation supervised by Ender Ozcan that has been accepted to the Expert Systems With Applications (ESWA) journal [see the news].

o Ender Ozcan co-chaired the 10th International Conference on the Practice and Theory of Automated Timetabling, PATAT 2014, held in York from 26-29th of August [see the news]


Previous News
o The ASAP team consisting of Shahriar Asta, Daniel Karapetyan, Ahmed Kheiri, Ender Özcan and Andrew Parkes wins first place in the MISTA 2013 Challenge on "Multi-mode resource-constrained multi-project scheduling". The performance of the proposed approach is significantly better than the other competing approaches, producing the best solution for 17 out of the 20 test instances and performing the best around 90% of the trials across all instances [ASAP news].

o Academic paper produced from the third year project by Warren Jackson (winner of the School Prize as well as Springer Science and Business Media Prize) under my supervision accepted for poster presentation and inclusion in the UKCI 2013 proceedings. [see the news]

o Despite this being our first attempt in high school timetabling, we (The HySST team: Ahmed, myself and Andrew) generated the best new solutions for three given instances in Round 1 and gained the second place in Rounds 2 and 3 at the 3rd International Timetabling Competition with a fairly standard stochastic search method but significantly enhanced by an easy-to-implement hyper-heuristic.
