G5AIAI - Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

This course is run at the The University of Nottingham within the School of Computer Science & IT. The course is run by Graham Kendall (EMAIL : gxk@cs.nott.ac.uk)

Course Textbooks

Listed below are the textbooks that you might need access to whilst taking the above course.

Artificial Intelligence : A Modern Approach by Stuart Russell and Peter Norvig (2003, Prentice Hall, ISBN 0-13-080302-2)
This is the main course text book. If you want to buy a book, then I suggest that this is the one to get. Not only will it help you with this course but is also a good AI book. The previous version (1995) is also suitable reading as it contains much of the same material.
This book is also available from the library and I have also made sure it is available on short term loan.

The Essence of Artificial Intelligence by Alison Cawsey (1998, Prentice Hall, ISBN 0-13-571779-5)
This book is available from the library and I have made sure it is available as short term loan.

Artificial Intelligence : Structures and Strategies for Complex Problem Solving by George F Luger (4th Edition, 2002, Pearson Education Limited, ISBN 0-201-64866-0)
This book (the 4th edition) is the latest from Luger (previously they were written by Luger and Stubblefield).
Note, that I have also listed the 3rd edition (below). Either will do for the purposes of this course but if you are going to buy this book then make sure you get the latest edition.
I have made sure that one of the editions is available as short term loan.
Artificial Intelligence : Structures and Strategies for Complex Problem Solving by George F Luger and William A Stubblefield(3rd Edition, 1998, Addison Wesley Longan, ISBN 0-805-31196-3)
This book (the 3rd edition) has now been superseeded by the 4th edition (see above). However, the 4th edition is not due out till sometime in 2002 so I have also listed the 3rd edition. Either edition will do or the purposes of this course but if you are going to buy this book then make sure you get the latest edition.
I have made sure that one of the editions is available as short term loan.
Artificial Intelligence : A Guide to Intelligent Systems by Michael Negnevitsky (2002, Perason Education, ISBN 0-201-71159-1
I have made sure this book is available as short term loan.
Artificial Intelligence by Elaine Rich and Kevin Knight (1991, McGraw-Hill, ISBN 0-07-100894-2)
I have made sure this book is available as short term loan.
