MSc project ideas 2017 / 2018
My research interest is Adaptive Architecture (the built environment kind). Adaptive Architecture is concerned with buildings that are specifically designed to be adaptive to their inhabitants and to their environments. More details can be found here: www.adaptivearchitectureframework.org.
-
•Making Adaptive Architecture involves ubiquitous computing technologies, sensing – computation – actuation.
-
•Understanding Adaptive Architecture involves the study of the feedback loops that are created between human behaviour and buildings.
Project suggestions:
All project ideas can be discussed and tailored.
Kinect 2 integration into MOVE prototype
The project involves the integration of the Kinect V2 sensor into the existing MOVE prototype (using Kinect 1, Processing and Phidgets) and a technical and/or user evaluation of the resulting new functionality. The MOVE prototype (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uo62Lr4yQpA ) maps human movement to movement in architecture.
Visualising Adaptive Architecture
Design, prototype and evaluate an interface that supports architects in the development of Adaptive Architecture in VR. Ordinary CAD is not sufficient to understand the interactive feedback loops that are created in adaptive buildings not yet constructed. Such an interface would combine a VR platform (e.g. UNITY) with a tracking technology (e.g. the Rokoko suit - https://www.rokoko.com/en) and a viewing device (e.g. a HMD such as the Occulus Rift).
