Brief Curriculum Vitae

My name is Dario Landa-Silva and I work as a Lecturer in Computer Science for the School of Computer Science at the University of Nottingham. I am a member of the Automated Scheduling, Optimisation and Planning (ASAP) research group. I am a member of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences (INFORMS) and the Operational Research Society (ORS).

Research

My research interests are on the interface between operations research and artificial intelligence with particular interest on the application of search and optimisation techniques (e.g. meta-heuristics, hyper-heuristics, evolutionary algorithms, multi-objective and multi-criteria methods) to tackle combinatorial problems (e.g. office space allocation, space planning, scheduling, timetabling, vehicle routing and similar problems) in order to underpin the development of intelligent decision support systems across a range of applications. See publications for more details.

I am in the editorial board of the Memetic Computing Journal published by Springer, served in the technical and programme committees for various international conferences and workshops, organised various special sessions and tracks in international conferences and workshops and act as referee for various journals. See more details.

Academic Formation

I obtained a Technical Professional Qualification in Electro-mechanics from the CBTis 13 (Mexico) in 1987, a BEng in Industrial Electronic Engineering from Instituto Tecnologico de Veracruz (Mexico) in 1991, an MSc in Engineering-Computer Science from DEPI in the Instituto Tecnologico de Chihuahua in 1997 and a PhD inc Computer Science from the School of Computer Science at the University of Nottingham in 2003.

Past Employment

After obtaining my BEng degree, I worked as an Electronic Maintenance Engineering for Cia. Cervecera del Tropico (Mexico) and then as an Electronic Design Engineer for PNLV Dos Bocas-CFE (Mexico). After obtaining my MSc degree, I worked as a Manufacturing Process Engineer for ALTEC Electronica de Chihuahua (Mexico) before moving to work in academia as a Lecturer in Science for Colegio de Bachilleres 4, Lecturer in Computer Science for Instituto Tecnologico de Chihuahua II and Senior Lecturer in Computer Science for the Facultad de Ingenieria at the Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua all in Chihuahua, Mexico. While studying for my PhD, I worked as a Lecturer in Computing for the Broxtowe College (now Castle College Nottingham). After completing my PhD degree, I worked as a Post-doctoral Research Associate for the Inter-disciplinary Optimisation Laboratory in the School of Computer Science at the University of Nottingham before starting as a Lecturer in Computer Science. In the past, I also contributed as part-time tutor in Computing in the Centre for Continuing Education at the University of Nottingham.

Courses I have delivered in Higher Education include: Heuristic Search Methods, Operations Research and Optimisation, Algorithms Design and Operations Research, Large Scale Systems Design, Computability, Commercial and Industrial Systems Design, Discrete Mathematics, Algorithms Design, Theory of Computational Languages, Data Structures, C/C++ Programming, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Graphics, Compilers Construction, Intelligent Systems, Systems Programming and Delphi Programming. Courses I have delivered in Continuing Education include: Security in Personal Computing, PC Fundamentals, Information Age, Digital Media, Making Digital Sound, Making MIDI Sound, IT Project and Diploma in Office Applications.
