Project Title: A Tutorial on Office Space Allocation Problem

Abstract:
Office Space Allocation Problem is a sub-discipline of combinational optimization problem, 
which focusses on arranging a large number of office rooms among a group of entities, such 
as people and machine in a judicious way. It is a quite problem-specific research topic with 
limited popularity. Therefore, it is seriously deficient in learning materials and obstructed 
the newcomer to participate in. Actually, it is not the problem only faced by the topic of 
Office Space Allocation problem. Recently, a lot of academic topics are based on very in-depth 
problems, which need novices to own certain fundamental knowledge to study on them. Proposing 
a suitable teaching method that has ability to present the basic motivation and knowledge to 
novices in an acceptable manner is very essential.
Computer technology has been involved in education for more than thirty years. Especially in 
the last decade, the development of the Internet provides a totally new and platform for 
education. Processing capability, transferring speed and other factors that limited the 
development of online educational applications before are now vanishing. From traditional 
paper-based lecturing, to computer-based slideshow presentation and then to web-based tutoring, 
education method has undergone enormous changes. As a newly emerging teaching method and tool, 
online tutorial is increasingly applied to various areas.
The purpose of this project is to create a web-based tutorial that is able to display the basic 
knowledge on Office Space Allocation Problem attractively and effectively. In details, this 
tutorial could present the process to tackle Office Allocation Problem by applying potential 
available algorithm. It also involves a related problem and displays the description, formulation 
and solution. Furthermore, several additional features have been designed for improving the 
usability and interactivity of tutorial.
Not only for Office Space Allocation Problem, this tutorial can be considered as a remarkable 
tutorial prototype for all problem-specific topics.
