Graham Kendall : Reference Page
So You Want a Reference?
If you want a reference you should normally approach your personal tutor or your project supervisor. I have been approached in the past by people I hardly know. How they expect me to complete a reference for them is beyond me :-).
One of the questions on the form, invariably, is "How long have you known this student?" Answering "about two weeks" is not really going to help your cause is it?
For the requests I feel I can do, all too often, I simply do not have enough information to work with. This results in a reference which does not say very much.
Therefore, if you want a reference, please provide me with the following details. This may all sound a bit pedanitic, but when I receive upwards of five requests a week (with many students requiring multiple forms for the various institutions they are applying to) then everything you can do to help is greatly appreciated.
