Project Title: Remote and Automated Control of Aquarium Using Short Message Service Student: Eyal Glozer Course: BSc Hons Computer Science Abstract: In recent years, smart environments have emerged as an integral part of modern and future homes. Numerous networked and intelligent devices, embedded into the home environment provide residents with the easier and more mobile lifestyle they seek. Furthermore, the rise in the number of elderly people especially in the developed world and the technology dependent population (disability) will increase the need for smart homes and thus will envisage smart homes as the norm for all future homes. Although fish aquariums require a high level of maintenance, aquariums are becoming a common household and office item. Larger, more complex custom built aquariums are becoming more and more popular. This project looks at the development of a system that could remotely control an aquarium, enabling the suer to communicate with the system through text messages in order to control and monitor the status of the aquarium. I.e. will be able to perform functions without sisturbing the user or contact the user when requisite. Automated responses by the system will trigger a message to be delivered to the user with a variety of options to perform. For example, irregular faults/errors by the system will generate a text delivery to the user describing the problem.
