Project Title: Heuristic Methods for Scheduling Sport Competitions Student: Sim-Chung Tang Course: BSc Hons Computer Science Abstract: Optimisation problems associated with the field of Operations Research have, since World War II, been many and difficult. In this dissertation I experiment with a number of commonly used heuristics with the aim of extending them, so as to make them more effective and more efficient when applied to the non-associated multiple venue problem, described by Urban & Russell (2003), as well as a similar problem occurring in the University of Nottingham. This dissertation is concerned with the issues involved in implementing such heuristics and will demonstrate whether or not such a goal can be satisfied.
