Project Title: An Automated System for Adaptive Room Layout Desing Student: Cen Shen Course: BSc Hons in Computer Science and Management Abstract: As many organizations and companies grow larger today, the change in occupiers cannot be avoided. The numbers of new coming people and previous people may be different. As a result, it causes a problem that the number of office rooms does not match the new people. The room layout needs to be changed. This project proposes a solution that is an automated system for room layout design. The system includes a database which has the information of rooms, occupiers, and new occupiers. It can ensure user to view and edit these data to create their scenarios. It provides both manual design tools and automatic design functions. This system focuses on the room plans which consist of horizontal and vertical lines. In order to minimize the disruption, only empty rooms are considered to be re-designed. The design part includes both manual design and automatic design. The manual design is different from paint tools. It provides automatic tools for user to modify their room layout plan. User can merge and split rooms and save the modified layout as a new room layout plan. On the other hand, the automatic design can generate a new room layout plan by analyzing the data in database. After users set the scenario, they are able to get a new room layout plan by simply pressing one button. In addition, user also can get a new room layout plan by inputting the number of empty rooms or average size. The two main approaches will be described specifically.
