Project Title: A Decision Support System for Office Space Allocation Student: Jose Arturo Castillo Salazar Course: MSc Management of IT Abstract: This dissertation is about investigating which techniques have been used to tackle the office space allocation problem. In order to do that, a brief description of currently used methods is provided. Also this dissertation gathers a set of functional and non-functional requirements to develop a decision support system for the problem. Some of the requirements were previously identified in the literature, but new ones are added, such as time-occupancy requirement, as a result of the work performed in the dissertation. This dissertation also provides an overview of the software systems available in the market to address the managing of space. With the information provided by the companies' websites and products specifications it can be stayed that none of them offer an automatic process based in metaheuristics. Therefore, the need to develop a system was still waiting. Finally, with all the requirements gathered an iterative software development process is performed to design and implement a first prototype model-driven decision support system for office space allocation.
