Project Title: Developing Mobile Applications to Solve Workforce Scheduling Student: Andreas Kafkalias Course: MSc Management of IT Abstract: This Master Thesis presents a system that consist of both mobile and desktop technologies to assist in the creation of the weekly schedule in a company. Every organization needs fast and efficient scheduling. The manager's task to complete that schedule with traditional techniques like pen and paper, can be difficult, time consuming and in some cases, overwhelming. Various approaches to pacify the scheduling labyrinth while attaining optimization are presented in this report. Problems like these are called Workforce Scheduling or Staff Scheduling problems and are usually encountered in Operations Research literature. Using optimization techniques from the ?eld of Operations Research we created a very effcient and promising system to create the weekly schedule of a company by reducing the cost of payment and satisfying the employees by assigning them to their preferable days off. Using smart phones within the system it becomes more ?exible and useful. The ?eld of Operations Research promises great advantages when it is integrated with new technologies.
