Project Title: Automated Module Selection Advisor System Student: Kun Yuan Course: MSc Information Technology Abstract: According to the Daily Mail news published in 30 March 2012 (Clark, 2012), some 22% of starters failed to finish the courses they began, and the ratio was rising to more than half at some Universities. It also shows that the number of students dropping out during first 12 month of their degree is all-time high. It means a large number of freshmen do not pass their first year modules. Althouhg the reasons for this phenomenon are various and complicated, insufficient course advising is an important contributing factor. The main purpose of this dissertation is to develop a powerful module selection advisor system that can address the problems faced by students and provide reasonable advices based on the different preferences and requirements of students during the module selection porcess. The system targets to the PGT (postgraduate taught) students in School of Computer Science, the University of Nottingham. This dissertation may be of interest to people who want to do a system, specially a kind of course selection advisor system.
