Mounted Warrior
Stone warriors on horseback are the Romano Celtic sculpture that represents a bronze figurine of a war-god mounted on a proud, high-stepping horse. It founds at Nottinghamshire/Lincolnshire border near the Margidunum. The rider wears a helmet, short tunic with leather thongs, and greaves. The horse is more carefully modelled than his rider, and his ornamental harness can clearly be seen. The high-stepping stance perhaps reflects the horse’s participation in a procession or parade. It is also suggested that the carving of the warrior was a sign of a religious.
Mounted Wear is a relief carving in stone of a mounted warrior holding a round shield and spear, which is thought to be related to a warrior cult associated with the Roman god Mars (Nottingham University Museum. Photo: R. J. A. Wilson).
